The Bihar Public Service Commission has released the detailed syllabus for the BPSC 72nd Integrated Combined Competitive Examination 2026. Candidates who are preparing for this exam must know the complete syllabus for both Preliminary and Mains examination. The BPSC 72nd CCE 2026 selection process consists of three stages. The first stage is the Preliminary Exam which is a screening test. The second stage is the Main Written Examination. The third stage is the Personality Test or Interview. BPSC 72nd CCE Prelims Exam Pattern 2026

The Preliminary Examination is the first stage of the selection process. It is only a screening test. The marks obtained in the preliminary exam are not counted for the final merit list. Candidates who qualify the preliminary exam will be called for the main examination. The number of candidates selected for the main exam is 10 times the total vacancies. In the preliminary exam, each question has five options. Candidates must select one correct answer from options A, B, C, or D. If the candidate does not want to answer a question, option E must be selected. If no option is selected, one third mark will be deducted. There is negative marking of one third mark for each wrong answer.

In medieval India, Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire should be studied. In modern India, the British rule and Indian freedom movement are key topics. General Geography

This section covers physical geography, Indian geography, and Bihar geography. In physical geography, landforms, climate, and soil types are important. BPSC 72nd CCE Mains Exam Pattern 2026

The Main Written Examination is the second stage. Candidates who qualify the preliminary exam can appear for the main exam. The main exam consists of multiple papers. The marks obtained in the main exam are counted for the final merit list. Here is the exam pattern for the BPSC 72nd CCE Mains Exam.

The General Hindi paper is qualifying in nature. Candidates must score a minimum of 30 percent marks in this paper. The marks of General Hindi are not counted for the merit list. For 72nd CCE, the total marks for mains is 900. For CDPO, FAO, and SDCO posts, an additional optional subject paper of 300 marks is required.

BPSC 72nd CCE Mains Syllabus 2026 – Detailed

General Hindi (Paper 1)

This is a qualifying paper. Candidates need to score at least 30 percent marks. The paper includes essay writing of 300 words, grammar topics like Sandhi, Samas, Kriya, and Kaal, syntax and sentence correction, precis writing, translation from English to Hindi, and comprehension passages. The paper tests the Hindi language proficiency of the candidate.

General Studies Paper I

This paper covers Indian culture and heritage, modern Indian history and freedom struggle, Indian geography including physical, social, and economic aspects, world geography with major physical features, Indian polity and governance, social justice and international relations, disaster management and environmental issues, and Bihar specific questions on history, culture, and geography.

General Studies Paper II

This paper covers Indian economy and planning, Bihar economy including agriculture, industry, and services, science and technology developments, environment and biodiversity, internal security and disaster management, ethics, integrity and aptitude, statistical analysis with graphs and diagrams, and decision making and problem solving questions.

Essay Paper

Candidates must write three essays in this paper. The essays can be written in Hindi, English, or Urdu. Topics are generally from current affairs, social issues, economy, culture, and governance. Focus should be on clarity of thought, proper structure, and good presentation. Each essay carries approximately 100 marks.

Optional Subject (For CDPO, FAO, SDCO Posts)

Candidates applying for Child Development Project Officer, Financial Administrative Officer, and Sub Divisional Conservation Officer must choose one optional subject. The available subjects are as follows.

BPSC 72nd CCE Personality Test (Interview)

Candidates who qualify the Main Written Examination are called for the Personality Test. The interview carries 120 marks. The number of candidates called for interview is 2.5 times the total vacancies. The interview panel tests the personality, communication skills, leadership qualities, and general awareness of the candidate. The final merit list is prepared by adding the marks of the Main Exam (900 marks) and the Interview (120 marks). The grand total for the final merit list is 1020 marks. Medical examination is mandatory for all candidates after the interview.
