General Intelligence & Reasoning

Verbal and non-verbal type questions on analogies, similarities, space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, decision-making, arithmetical reasoning, series, etc. (50 Questions, 50 Marks)

General Awareness

Questions on sports, history, culture, geography, economic scene, general polity, Indian constitution, scientific research, and current events. (50 Questions, 50 Marks)

English Language & Comprehension

Understanding of English Language, vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and writing ability. (100 Questions, 100 Marks)

Duration & Negative Marking

Total Duration: 2 Hours (Sectional timers apply).
Negative Marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

Skill Test in Stenography

Stenographer Grade 'C'

Dictation Speed: 100 words per minute (w.p.m.)
Transcription Time: English - 40 min | Hindi - 55 min

Stenographer Grade 'D'

Dictation Speed: 80 words per minute (w.p.m.)
Transcription Time: English - 50 min | Hindi - 65 min

Candidates are shortlisted based on CBE marks for the Skill Test.

Final Merit & Allocation

Final selection and allocation of posts/departments are based on the merit in the Computer Based Examination and candidate preferences, subject to qualifying the Skill Test. This process follows a First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA) under a sliding mechanism.

Step 1

Go to the official SSC website: ssc.gov.in and complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) process.

Step 2

After OTR, log in with your Registration Number and Password. Click on the 'Apply' link for 'Stenographer Grade 'C' & 'D' Examination, 2026' under the Live Exam tab.

Step 3

Fill in all required details in the online Application Form, including Educational Qualifications, Post Preferences, and Exam Centre choices.

Step 4

Capture your live photograph through the application module (a pre-existing photo is not needed) and upload your scanned signature as per the specifications.

Step 5

Pay the online application fee, if applicable.

Step 6

Submit the application. Your form status will show as 'Application Received (Contents Not Verified)'. Download and print the final application form for your records.

Important Instructions in Details

Reservation & Suitability

Reservation applies for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ESM, and PwBD as per Govt. orders. All posts are identified suitable for various benchmark disabilities. For BRO, only male candidates are eligible for the Stenographer Grade 'D' post. BRO posts have stringent physical and medical standards.

Document Verification (DV)

Candidature is provisional. Original documents (Educational Certificates, Caste/Category, Disability, ESM discharge certificate, etc.) will be verified by the User Department/Organization after the final result.

Scribe & Compensatory Time

Candidates with benchmark disabilities in blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected), or cerebral palsy can avail scribe/assistive technology. Compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour is provided.

Key Points

Only one application is allowed. Candidates are advised not to wait until the last date to apply. Name, Father's name, Mother's name, and Date of Birth must exactly match the Matriculation Certificate.
