Short Information: The UGC NET June 2026 notification has been released by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The online application process started on 29 April 2026 and will continue till 20 May 2026. Candidates can apply online at ugcnet.nta.nic.in. The exam will be conducted from 22 June to 30 June 2026 in Computer Based Test mode for 85 subjects. The exam city details will be announced by 10 June 2026 and admit cards will be available by 15 June 2026. The application fee is Rs. 1150 for General category, Rs. 600 for General EWS and OBC NCL, and Rs. 325 for SC, ST, PwD and Third Gender candidates. UGC NET is conducted to determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship, appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to Ph.D. programs in Indian universities and colleges. The exam consists of two papers with no break between them. Paper 1 has 50 questions for 100 marks and Paper 2 has 100 questions for 200 marks. There is no negative marking. UGC NET June 2026 Notification Out
The UGC NET June 2026 notification has been officially released by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NTA has been entrusted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to conduct the UGC NET examination. This test is conducted to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for Junior Research Fellowship, appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to Ph.D. programs in Indian universities and colleges.
The NTA will conduct UGC NET June 2026 for 85 subjects in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. The online application process started on 29 April 2026 and the last date to apply is 20 May 2026 up to 11:50 PM. Candidates can apply only through the official website ugcnet.nta.nic.in. The application submitted through any other mode will not be accepted.
About National Testing Agency (NTA)
The Ministry of Education, Government of India has established the National Testing Agency as an independent, autonomous, and self-sustained premier testing organization under the Societies Registration Act 1860. NTA conducts efficient, transparent and international standard tests to assess the competency of candidates for admission to premier higher education institutions.
About University Grants Commission (UGC)
The University Grants Commission is a Statutory Body of Government of India, Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education. It was constituted under the University Grants Commission Act 1956. UGC is vested with two responsibilities: providing funds and coordination, determination and maintenance of standards in institutions of higher education.
Purpose of UGC NET
UGC NET is a test to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for three purposes:

Candidates qualifying under the Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. category will be eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. but not for the award of JRF. Candidates qualifying under the admission to Ph.D. only category will be eligible for admission to Ph.D. only but not for the award of JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor.

The fee can be paid online through Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, or UPI. Applicable service processing charges and GST over and above the examination fee are to be paid by the candidate to the concerned Bank or Payment Gateway Integrator.

Paper 1 intends to assess the teaching and research aptitude of the candidate. It is primarily designed to test reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. Paper 2 is based on the subject selected by the candidate and assesses domain knowledge.

UGC NET June 2026 Medium of Question Paper
The medium of the question paper is English and Hindi only, except language papers. The option for medium of question paper should be carefully chosen by the candidate while filling the Application Form online. The option once exercised cannot be changed. In case of any ambiguity in translation of a question, the English version shall be treated as final.
UGC NET June 2026 Eligibility Criteria
For Assistant Professor and JRF:
General or Unreserved or General EWS candidates who have secured at least 55 percent marks (without rounding off) in Master's Degree or equivalent examination from universities or institutions recognized by UGC are eligible. OBC NCL, SC, ST, PwD, PwBD, and Third Gender category candidates who have secured at least 50 percent marks (without rounding off) are eligible.
For candidates pursuing Master's Degree:
Candidates who are pursuing their Master's degree or equivalent course or candidates who have appeared for their qualifying Master's degree final year examination and whose result is still awaited may also apply. Such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible only after they have passed their Master's Degree with required percentage of marks.
For Four Year Bachelor's Degree holders:
Candidates having passed a 4 year or 8 semester bachelor's degree programme should have a minimum of 75 percent marks in aggregate. A relaxation of 5 percent marks may be allowed for SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), differently abled, EWS and other categories. Candidates qualifying NET based on a four year undergraduate degree will be eligible for JRF and admission to Ph.D. but not for appointment as Assistant Professor.
UGC NET June 2026 Age Limit
For JRF: Not more than 30 years as on 01 June 2026. A relaxation of up to 5 years is provided to candidates belonging to OBC NCL, SC, ST, PwD, PwBD, Third Gender categories and to women applicants. Relaxation is also provided to candidates with research experience and LLM degree.
For Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit.
For Admission to Ph.D.: There is no upper age limit.

How to Apply for UGC NET June 2026 ?
Follow these steps to apply online.
Step 1: Register online using your own Email ID and Mobile Number on the website ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
Step 2: Fill in the Online Application Form and note down the system generated Application Number. The candidate will have to upload his/her live photograph at the time of filling of the application form.
Step 3: Upload scanned images of a recent photograph (file size 10Kb to 200Kb) with 80 percent face visible including ears against white background.
Step 4: Upload scanned image of candidate's signature (file size 10kb to 50kb).
Step 5: Upload PwD or PwBD Disability Certificate if applicable (file size 50kb to 300kb).
Step 6: Pay fee using SBI, Canara, ICICI, HDFC Bank, Debit Card, Credit Card, or UPI and keep proof of fee paid.
Step 7: Download, save and print a copy of Confirmation Page of the Application Form for future reference.
UGC NET June 2026 Admit Card
The Admit Card will be issued provisionally to the candidates subject to fulfilment of eligibility criteria. Candidates can download the Admit Card from the NTA website by 15 June 2026. No candidate will be allowed to appear at the examination centre on date and timings other than that allotted to them in their Admit Card. Admit Cards will not be sent by post or through email. Candidates must bring a printed copy of Admit Card along with one passport size photograph and any one of the authorized photo IDs to the examination centre.
UGC NET June 2026 Answer Key
NTA will display Provisional Answer Keys and Question Paper attempted by the candidates on the NTA website. The Provisional Answer Keys are likely to be displayed for two to three days. Candidates will be required to pay online an amount of Rs. 200 per answer key challenged as processing fee. This fee is non-refundable. Only paid challenges made during the stipulated time through the key challenge link will be considered. The subject experts will examine all the challenges received and then a final answer key will be displayed and declared.
UGC NET June 2026 Result
The result will be compiled based on the final answer key declared. The number of candidates to be qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor shall be equal to 6 percent of the candidates appeared in NET in both the papers. The total slots shall be allocated to different categories as per the reservation policy of Government of India. Candidates must have appeared in both the papers and secured at least 40 percent aggregate marks for General category and 35 percent aggregate marks for reserved categories. The result shall be hosted on the NTA website. There shall be no re-evaluation or re-checking of the result.
